- Currently in Texas, there are 3.9 million people living below poverty
level.1
- There are more than 938,386 (14.2 percent) Texas families living
in poverty.1
- To qualify for free civil legal services, an individual must not
earn more than $13,000 per year. A family of four must not earn more
than $26,500 per year.2
- Texas ranks 42nd in the nation in per capita revenue for the provision
of legal aid.3
- According to the 2006 Voluntary Reporting of Volunteer Legal Services
to the Poor, Texas attorneys reported their contributions toward legal
services to the poor: a total of 1.77 million pro bono hours and 1.28
million hours at reduced rates.4
- In 2007, Texas attorneys donated more than $520,000 through the
State Bar of Texas dues collection for the provision of civil legal
aid for low-income Texans.4
